What is the future of the city? Dense, urban, dirty? My students in Switzerland said: engaging. Cities can no longer afford to be ugly, monotonous, and boring. Only those cities will thrive that balance sustainability and entertainment. In Paris, food trucks rediscover the Place Étoile; in Bern, Big Data is showed on Bundesplatz; and in Milan, a cinema on Piazza del Duomo screens what people vote for.
